Entertainment Weekly has 11 new photos from the upcoming television series adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s mega-successful (and mega-awesome) A Song of Ice and Fire fantasy series:
Every time I see new photos, I’m just blown away by how well HBO has cast the show. They don’t look exactly like the characters in my head, but, similar to what has happened with J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, I can imagine each and actor quickly replacing those images whenever I re-read the series.
More photos can be found on Entertainment Weekly in advance of the in-depth feature on the television series that will be featured in tomorrow’s issue the magazine.
Which are your favourites? Are there any casting choices you emphatically agree or disagree with?
Aidan Moher is the editor of A Dribble of Ink, a humble little blog that exists in some dusty corner of the web. He hasn’t won any awards, or published any novels. But he’s, uhh… working on that.
He is also a contributor at SF Signal and the lackey for io9’s Geek’s Guide to the Galaxy podcast.
Dany looks totally different from how I envisioned her… but I recognized Cersei immediately, before I scrolled down far enough to read the caption.
(And now my brain is filling in the Sarah Connor == Cersei connection.)
Samwell looks fantastically cast. I guessed Cersei right off as well.
I like Headey and Clarke in their roles, but they are *slightly* off because neither is naturally blonde. It’s strange they left such dark eyebrows on Dany, given her platinum features.
I wish Tamzin Merchant had stayed on as Dany. This girl isn’t how I pictured her, but Tamzin was perfect. And I agree with aidan, they could have at least dyed her eyebrows. That’s really distracting.
I’m only halfway through the third book, but Dany has been the most interesting character, by far. Clarke looks nothing like what I pictured Dany, but it’s only one photo. Harington looks a bit off, too. Not sure why…
Still, it will be good to see the finished product.
I know a few natural blondes with darker eyebrows. It happens. If that ends up being the biggest gripe people have then they can live with it probably. The biggest thing I’ll have to get used to is the aged-up kids. I know why they had to do it, and I’ll probably forget about it a minute into the show, but I wasn’t expecting facial hair. Heh.
For me the Lannister twins stole the day. Wow. I was excited about the casting, but seeing them in full costume blew me away.
Agreed – not convinced with Dany. That is not gold and platinum hair. If you’re going to dye it anyway get it right. She looks like she’s just escaped from some trusafarian hippy rave to me.
I need to weigh in. I’m very excited/obsessed that this is happening and can’t wait until March.
– Aged up kids is not ideal for purity with books but makes a ton of practical sense for HBO (i.e., Rickon can do something other than let his direwolf run wild – wait, he’ll do that anyway) and makes things marginally to a whole lot less creepy for the marriageable girls (Dany, Sansa).
– Dany doesn’t quite fit my vision but she looks striking, which is what counts.
– Jon does look a bit off – imagined him more like a smooth skinned pretty boy than John Hughes/Snidely Whiplash but I’ll make do.
– I kept expecting Mark Addy walking around with his “You Can Keep You’re Hat On” outfit from the Full Monty but he actually looks surprisingly good as King Bob. Color me impressed.
– Tyrion, Cersei, Jamie, Bran, Samwell, Pyp, Ned, Pycelle and especially Mord look great.
– Really wish they had found shots with the other Stark kids. George RR joked last week that he’s looking forward to “Team Robb” versus “Team Jon” debates in 2011. LOL.
Rob
P.s. Drunes – strap in, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
This is so very exciting. But I don’t have HBO, so I’ll have to wait even longer to see it!!! I only just started reading, and have made it to book 3, and am so in love with all the twists. Yay!!
@9 If you’re only part way through book 3, get ready for things to happen.
RobMRobM: I had eye surgery about two months ago, right when I reached the middle of book 3. Had to stop reading until things healed. As my eyes got better, I decided to start a different book than resume A Storm of Swords because the print was larger. My eyes are getting stronger every day, but based on what you said, it’s not happening soon enough.
Lanyo: I’m with you. No HBO either, but here’s what will happen — it always does. Some day while travelling, I’ll check into a hotel with free HBO and find out an episode of the series was on — the day before! Of course, sometimes the episode will be on the day after I check out. Happened all the time with The Sopranos.
i alweys pictured sam to be way fatter then that. did’nt it say his weight was 200 kg , that actor dose’nt look that fat.
No HBO for me either. It’s going to be painful, but I’ll be waiting for the DVDs.
